Aquaplastics is a new 'Click-to-give' site commissioned on behalf of WaterAid and sponsored by the Association of Plastics Manufacturers Europe (APME). Every click registered on the site is counted towards a total and when that total is reached, APME gives WaterAid the specified amount of sponsorhip monies to go towards the programmes WaterAid have to help drought in third-world countries.
After the success and positive feedback of the WaterAid site redesign and dotEditor implementation, WaterAid decided that we would be the people to design their new 'Click-to-give' site, sponsored by APME. The first CTG site WaterAid had done in conjunction with Thames Water had been successful from the point of view of donations but they felt the site itself had been lacking in its design for the web and they were also disappointed when they were unable to update any of it, due to the previous web company's demise.
Work then began to produce three concepts for WaterAid, APME and Countrywide Porter Novelli (APME's branding agency) and after the initial look and feel was chosen, the sites content was produced in the chosen six languages while the rest of the site templates were built. The next stage was to then add the functionality such as the click counter, the donations form and the Tell-a-friend feature. Lastly, a newsletter was produced which was sent out using two mail systems (including dotMailer) to inform people of the site and how they can help.
The result is a website that is low bandwidth optimal and accessible even to those in developing countries with limited and donated technology but still has enough visual impact to entice people to want to click to give.
