ORBIS exists to preserve and restore sight worldwide and works in partnership with local health professionals to improve the quality of eye care available for people in countries where the need is great.

Orbis came to Ellipsis following the original launch of the site having used separate agencies for the design front-end and the content management back-end. Although they were happy with the features of the incumbent CMS, Orbis were much less satisfied with the design work produced which they felt was lacklustre and did not convey the ORBIS message effectively.

After the initial consultancy, concepts were produced for the new site interface to a very tight deadline involving close consultation with the Communications department at ORBIS. One design was chosen as a clear favourite and then with minor changes, this was produced into the templates you currently see on the site today (http://www.ukorbis.org). These template files then had the CMS integrated quickly into them, thanks to our experience at Ellipsis of designing for Content Managed Systems.

The complete makeover took less than two weeks and ensured that the site was ready to launch by the end of March 2003 to coincide with Orbis' DC-10 arrival at Stanstead airport.
